Juan came to the rescue as an owner surrender resulting from Hurricane Irma in 2017. His initial rehab and evaluation needs included overall health exam, dental work, assessing arthritic changes in fetlock joints, weight gain and eye exam. He also received more appropriate farrier care. Juan was a smart boy but initially was very shy/leery of being caught. He showed very good progress in the early days of settling in and easily fit in with other horses. We understand he had been kept on his own for many years so we’re very happy to have provided him normal socialization with other horses again. Due to years of neglect and other factors, Juan colicked during his rehabilitation phase. The vet was unable to bring him out of it and he was humanely euthanized to end his suffering.
