Our 2023 lawsuit to protect four Wyoming wild horse herds is making its way through the court at last. This is a critical time in a decades-long fight to protect America’s wild horses.
On March 18 , our top attorney will represent our oral arguments before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals at the United States Courthouse in Denver. The outcome of this case is vital to the Wyoming herds and beyond.
Along with Return to Freedom and two wildlife advocates, Front Range Equine Rescue is a plaintiff in this fight to protect over 2 million acres in an area called the “Wyoming Checkerboard” (a combination of public and private lands). The goal is to stop demands by private, special interests, in particular the Rock Springs Grazing Association (RSGA), which has fought to wipe out the wild horses that live there.
Make no mistake, these are very powerful interests who see wild horses as competitors to their private livestock on our taxpayer public lands — lands designated for wild horse (and burro) use by the 1971 Wild Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act.
