Tyson (RETIRED)
Tyson joined the rescue in April 2018 from a financially troubled animal sanctuary in Florida. He had not had professional farrier care in two years, no dental care, proper worming, vaccinations or appropriate nutrition. He is getting his health care needs updated and his weight issue monitored as part of his abdomen is “bloated” due to parasites and/or sand. Tyson is super outgoing and easy to handle.
Update: Tyson has been retired with the rescue. He has metabolic issues which we are working to balance, but is otherwise healthy and very sweet.
UPDATE (Dec 2021): Tyson has been retired with the rescue. He has been overweight for years according to people familiar with where he was prior to coming to the rescue. He’s been diagnosed with metabolic issues which seem to have seasonal flare ups and in 2020 tested positive for Cushings disease. He’s on medication for Cushings, but also has ongoing eye issues which require treatments for flare ups of conjunctivitis. In the past 2 years he has also developed allergies and mild COPD during the very hot/humid summer months. He receives various traditional and holistic treatments to manage these conditions. In 2021 he was diagnosed with nuclear sclerosis in his right eye, which causes some vision loss with close up sight. However, it does not cause blindness but needs to be monitored. Tyson has a great personality; while a little stubborn at times, he is a well trained mini who is easy to care for.
