Mystery
Mystery joined the rescue in January 2018 as part of a large group of horses needing rescue after an animal sanctuary lost funding in 2016. Mystery had a history of progressively worsening heaves (COPD) with current dental issues, severe dermatitis on lower legs and a body condition score of 2/9 upon arrival. She also had atrophy of gluteal muscles and lameness in the right hind leg. This little mare has a tough spirit and sweet disposition. However, the COPD was very advanced with areas in her lungs no longer functioning. After a thorough examination, it was determined that humane euthanasia was the most humane option as steroid treatment was no longer offering some quality of life to her.
