Monica joined the rescue in January 2018 as part of a large group of horses needing rescue after an animal sanctuary lost funding in 2016. Under her heavy winter coat, the initial veterinary exam indicated 2/9 body condition score. Monica also had severe dermatitis on all 4 legs and muscle loss across her hind end. It was noted she dragged her right hind toe when walking. Monica’s front legs had several issues including being “over” at the knees along with severe arthritis and internal damage to the left front knee from former injury. She was well past due for dental care and looked to have Cushing’s disease as well.
Update: Due to numerous old and untreated conditions it was determined it was not possible to give Monica a pain-free or good quality of life. She was humanely put down after years of neglect.
