Honey joined the rescue in January 2025 when her owner needed to give her up due to a change in circumstances. Honey came to FRER’s attention after a message came in about one of FRER’s formerly adopted horses (Grayson) needing to be owner surrendered. Honey was Grayson’s companion and had been purchased by the owner in the summer of 2024.

Honey is settling into her new surroundings and meeting new friends; she is curious and sweet, but can also startle at times. She responds well to calm energy with clear guidance when needed.

She will have a veterinary evaluation the week after arriving. A treatment protocol will be provided once the equine vet evaluates and diagnoses any needs or areas of concern.

Honey is retired with the rescue and will be cared for along with FRER’s other horses in Colorado.

Honey underwent further veterinary evaluation and had her dental, Coggins test, and check for parasites. As expected, she was very much overdue for dental care. The vet reported that Honey is likely 16 years old; her incisors have regular wear, one with a long hook which corresponds to a hook on a hind molar. Very sharp points; also noted and treated as able, were hooks, step pattern and wave pattern.
Hooks, sharp points and other issues are not only very painful, but cause difficulty with chewing and processing feed. Imagine being so hungry but having to ensure discomfort to severe pain every time you eat!
Honey will be re-checked in 8 months.
