Dallas
Dallas was saved in October 2024 after being cast off for what would have been a brutal ending at a slaughterhouse if he didn’t end up dying beforehand.
His initial veterinary exam noted his body score (BCS) at 2/9; his mouth was “frothy” and severely malodorous (indicating infection and other significant issues). Even with dental care to address some issues, Dallas was unlikely to be able to properly eat at all. The risk of “choke” due to trying supplemental and soaked feed would have been high as once many teeth are missing or need extraction and remaining molars are down to nubs.
Other underlying health issues would need further investigation after dealing with what presented up front during evaluation.
This sweet elderly horse had been attacked recently by another horse or possibly horses as evidenced by healing and scarring of wounds along his left side.
