Poppy
Poppy came to the rescue in August 2026 when she was transferred from another CO rescue group to join our sanctuary horse herd.
We are happy to have some background information on Poppy from the other group who rescued her from an auction in Wyoming, then had her in a foster home which provides quarantine services for them.
Poppy was thin with overgrown hooves. Once transferred to the other rescue’s main facility, she received updated veterinary and farrier care.
At this time, we are continuing with more rehabilitation and assessment to continue Poppy’s recovery from past use and neglect. She is a very sweet (and vocal) little mustang mare who must have had a good human in her life at some point. She is very outgoing and friendly with people.
She’s undergone a preliminary examination by one of the veterinarians who works with us. Her dental and farrier care will continue with follow up from initial services completed before coming to us. It’s likely this little mare had either not had dental care in a very long time or never.
Very sadly we did discover she had a broken pelvis at some point as her one hip is approximately 4″ lower than the other. We will do a more in depth analysis of this past trauma at the next scheduled appointment before month’s end.
