Vinny was rescued in July 2026 after being sent through an auction at some point recently. He was clearly very lamed up and should never have been dumped in this way!

Veterinary exam and evaluation revealed what we strongly suspected as to the cause of lameness:
He is a agouti-colored, mostly grey medium-sized mule with a sun-damaged blaze and the dorsal margin of the right eye’s medial palpebrum (eyelid) has obvious ulceration from squamous cell carcinoma.

He shows pain signs of epiphora and blepharospasm and is mildly head-shy on the right side only. His right hip gluteal mm are asymmetrically atrophied, with right pelvic limb deviating from the coxofemoral joint in abnormal external rotation and slight abduction.

The right stifle is moderate effusive, and Vinny is 4/5 lame on the right hind limb.

Vinny was humanely euthanized laying down on his left side. A post-mortem manipulation of the coxofemoral joint palpated with bone-on-bone crepitus, indicating a deep right-sided hip fracture which is not externally palpable.

It was clear that Vinny had a broken pelvis/hip and there was no need for any other evaluation. Again, another innocent senior equine cast off like disposable trash to wring final dollars from him by an ignorant (or possibly knowing) owner of what his fate would be.
