Highlander
Highlander was transferred in August 2026 from another CO rescue in order to complete his rehabilitation and provide lifelong sanctuary.
He is a 17h grey Thoroughbred gelding with a past history of having raced for several years. Once retired from racing, he was trained as a competition horse which included jumping.
At some point he sustained an injury leaving him lame. He received appropriate treatment and may have become riding sound for a brief time. Eventually he was taken into a rescue in Colorado which provided rehabilitation and evaluation before placement for adoption.
After two adoptive homes which were unable to keep him, he stayed with the rescue until August 2026 when we partnered with them to take on a couple of horses needing permanent sanctuary.
We were happy to have many details of his history provided by the other rescue to assist us with going forward as to basic caretaking and any further special needs.
Highlander had an initial evaluation with one of the equine veterinary practices that work with us. More details to follow as a follow up examination is forthcoming. He’s a very sweet boy and gets along great with other horses. Another grey TB gelding (Samson) who was rescued a few months ago has become Highlander’s best friend.
