Taffy
Taffy was rescued in July 2026 to remove her from a bad situation where she would not receive the care needed and could eventually enter the slaughter pipeline.
It was clear that Taffy had breathing difficulties and a likely cause could be heaves (COPD) or another respiratory issue. She settled in with other new rescues and was being closely monitored.
That evening, Taffy colicked and was seen by the emergency vet from a nearby clinic. The colic was severe and treatments provided did not help. Taffy was humanely put down to end her suffering as the colic was irreversible.
It’s likely Taffy had medical issues which likely caused the last owner to dump her at an auction (and yes, we have nothing nice to say about that owner whoever it was!)… the stress to this senior mare likely triggered an exacerbation of her condition. We can also “guess” that poor quality food available to her prior to rescue was a contributing factor to the colic, along with very high temperatures in CO for weeks prior.
