Shay
Shay was rescued in July 2026. She’s a young sorrel filly, maybe age 2 or 3. Shay is not halter trained and is crippled in both front legs.
It is believed that this young horse was born with a congenital defect that might have been corrected when she was a foal. Instead she was left to have her forelimbs grow more and more distorted, bowed out and twisted.
How she managed to move around for years with such damaged limbs is hard to imagine as there would be a lot of compensation throughout her body for the abnormal gait(s), and normal movement such as rolling, lying down and having to get back up is either impossible or extremely difficult. Even standing would require fairly constant shifting of supporting structures along with being able to eat or drink.
Shay was kept in a peaceful setting where she could destress from her ordeal of going through transport to an auction and further transport with other horses to a lot.
She spent time with other rescue horses prior to veterinary evaluation and a plan was made for humane euthanasia in a calm environment with safe handling.
How sad all other humans never provided responsible care for Shay in her young life.
