Samson
Samson joined the retired herd in April 2026. His owner wanted to place him into a safe and permanent home. Samson is an off-the-track Thoroughbred (OTTB) who later was used as a roping horse by a past owner.
His former owner used Samson to teach his kids how to ride.
Samson had regular medical care and is on medication for Cushings disease. We will have our veterinarian team pick up his care and do other evaluations so that we can provide Samson with any other treatment or supplementation he might require.
This gentle and very sweet senior gelding has made fast friends with other horses at the private facility where Samson is part of the retired herd.
UPDATE (August 2026): Samson has made steady progress in gaining weight and more muscle tone. He’s had evaluations by veterinarians who treat our horses. X-rays have shown he has thin soles, and signs of old abscesses in the left front which also has just under 4 degrees of coffin bone rotation.
We are working to treat and manage inflammation and arthritis and have scheduled other diagnostics. In the meantime, Samson has befriended new rescues Poppy and (especially) Highlander.
