Liberty was rescued in early July 2019 after a call indicating the owner couldn’t do anything with an injured mare he had purchased to re-sell. The story was she probably had a puncture wound to her hock. Reading between the lines, we were certain this mare was in serious trouble as the owner was a horse dealer/kill buyer.

Upon arrival, Liberty was extremely lame and in clear distress. The vet had already been contacted to come asap. This poor mare was barely weight-bearing and there was apparent strain overall for her trying to move or just stand because of the pain. With no evidence of a puncture wound, it was quickly determined her hock was fractured with multiple bones involved. And the injury was not “recent” but likely months old.

Liberty was humanely euthanized to end her suffering as no options were available to provide any care or relief.
