Ginette 2
New Ginette

Ginette was rescued during July 2026 to prevent her from entering the slaughter pipeline or ending up further neglected and left in significant pain from past injury.

From her initial veterinary exam and evaluation:

Ginette is likely a Thoroughbred or Appendix, but does not have a lip tattoo, only an incomplete illegible left hip freeze brand that is faint. Her body condition score (BCS) is 4/9 . She is resentful and reactive to handling of her underbelly and hind end, and has enlarged mammary tissue and swollen teats. This may be from post pregnancy, stress, recent exposure to another mare’s foal, or exposure to a stallion, to name a few possibilities.

Both carpi (knees) have bony prominences and a knobby appearance with the L>>R. The right carpus cannot fully extend, so the moderately flexed carpus disallows full weight-bearing
when at rest and the flexor tendons and suspensory apparatus bear this burden. The left range of motion (ROM) when flexed is decreased by 40% and the right at least 50%, indicating Ginette is in constant pain and likely unable to lay down and rest.

Afte further evaluation, humane euthanasia was provided as the condition of her front legs was already deteriorated and going to worsen with no treatment to manage or improve quality of life.
