Genie
At the end of April 2025, we were alerted to a horse with significant lameness issues and in danger of ending up shipped to slaughter.
We were sent some photos and a brief video of the mare who we named Genie. It was clear that she had been sold off at some auction, likely a few days before we received a call.
Evaluation showed Genie had suffered trauma and severe injury which left her front knees very arthritic, with very obvious calcification and a decreased range of motion (ROM).
Under the remnants of her winter hair, she was too thin; dental care had been lacking for quite some time. Her right hind had a thickened area of scar tissue from a bad injury at some time in the past. Her hooves were past due for a trim as well.
It was determined that no treatment option was available that could manage the pain level from her enlarged knees as the joints were too arthritic and would only worsen even more. Her lameness issues in the front legs as well as hind end (compensation and/or other injury) were not able to be reduced.
Genie was humanely euthanized. Again, another horse ruined and used up by humans and cast off like disposable trash. Absolutely unacceptable. We’re thankful we could spare her further suffering thanks to donors who support our work.
