At the end of April 2025, we were alerted about a very lame chestnut gelding in danger of entering the slaughter pipeline. It’s likely he had been dumped at a low end auction after whoever last owned him had dumped him (injured and crippled).

Carter’s right hind leg was swollen and he moved very stiffly, trying to avoid the pain movement caused. It’s unclear how old the injury is or the cause. Clearly a very nice horse, broken down by humans who only worked him until he could no longer go on.

Evaluation showed the injury and other medical issues could not be managed to give Carter a restored and continuing quality of life.

Sadly, Carter was humanely euthanized.

Yet again, another horse ruined and used up by humans and cast off like disposable trash. Absolutely unacceptable. We’re thankful we could spare him further suffering thanks to donors who support our work.
