Cruelty Begins Before Horses Reach The Killbox

For decades, Front Range Equine Rescue has fought to bring an end to the slaughter of America’s horses. While this vile industry has been greatly reduced, it is still too prevalent and remains completely unnecessary especially when there are numerous humane alternatives. Beyond the cruelty, America’s horses are unfit for human consumption due to the facts that they are not raised/regulated as a food animal and over the course of their lifetimes are given products and medications which contain substances banned for use in food animals.

Once again, another investigation by Animals’ Angels reveals the dark side of the horse industry. Horse slaughter has no place in the lives of our precious and majestic horses. It is an unnecessary and barbaric business which shows the ignorance and evil within those involved.

Horses are NOT disposable trash. America’s horses are NOT raised nor regulated as a food animal. They are given numerous products and medications which contain substances banned in food animals. No matter where or how it is done, horse slaughter is NEVER humane.

We thank Animals’ Angels for remaining vigilant, dedicated and on the trail of those involved in this brutal industry to expose and seek prosecution for the abuse and criminality.

From Animals’ Angels recent report:

Overview

Animals’ Angels has identified Missouri as a major hub in the U.S. horse slaughter pipeline, with livestock auctions playing a central role in funneling injured and vulnerable horses to kill buyers.

In January and February 2026, Animals’ Angels investigators conducted multiple on-site visits to Interstate Regional Stockyards, documenting widespread neglect, violent handling, and the repeated presence of known slaughter buyers.

One of the most significant outcomes of this investigation was Animals’ Angels’ successful involvement of law enforcement after investigators documented a horse suffering from a severely broken ankle and extensive injuries. Following our report and evidence submission, local law enforcement opened an active investigation into the auction and its operations.
