Stella was rescued in July 2025 after what were years of neglect and suffering from a diminishing quality of life.

Part of her veterinary exam indicated that Stella has visually apparent right forelimb carpal lesions which when palpated are both soft and firm. The right forelimb is strongly flexion positive with decreased range of motion (ROM) of about 25%. The right carpus is bowed laterally.

Other health factors and a poor prognosis for improving quality of life where no specific protocols could eliminate chronic pain issues led to an end of life decision. Stella was given care, a calm environment and provided with humane euthanasia.

It is very sad to think what a hard life Stella had led to bring her to a broken down state in her senior years and that she was (like too many other horses) cast off at a low end auction to await an even more gruesome fate. We are grateful we could spare her that.
