Sailor
A last minute call in April 2025 came in to help spare a crippled horse from further abuse. It is unthinkable what sort of life Sailor had endured.
Sailor was estimated to be around 9 years old and was still a stallion. He was very likely unhandled and had been left with a badly neglected congenital club foot.
The severity of his lameness cannot be emphasized enough. The pain this horse lived in was unbearable. Every joint, muscle, tendon and ligament would have been negatively impacted, not only on the club footed limb, but all over his body due to constant, chronic compensation elsewhere.
The right front was overgrown, but clearly there was significant damage to structures there as well from years and years of disability and improper function.
It’s possible the only kindness this horse received was the final act of humane euthanasia in a calm, caring setting. It was the only option available to us. Our disgust and outrage at every person who ignored this horse’s plight throughout his life cannot be overstated.
