DJ (RETIRED)
DJ joined the rescue from an animal cruelty case. He was successfully rehabilitated and eventually adopted as a trail horse. Unfortunately the adopter had to return DJ to the rescue. He spent time being ridden by confident, experienced junior riders under the supervision of one of our trainers. He did well with arena and trail riding. He participated in some gymkhana games. DJ also had a chance to sort cows. He is a quick mover and has speed so DJ needed an intermediate or better rider. He spent time at a private farm in VA when the rescue was relocating part of its operation to Florida. DJ never found a permanent home so he has come to live at the rescue’s FL farm with other retired horses. He’s a great little horse.
UPDATE (Dec 2021) DJ is our herd leader at the FL location. He has welcomed many of the new rescues over the past few years and maintains a benign, but steadfast position at the top of the herd. He’s an amazing horse, looks great for his age and still gives William a run for his money when it’s time to play and take a run through pasture areas. DJ is also very punctual about when it’s feeding time and let’s you know with a loud whinny!
