Adelle was rescued with a group of horses during October 2026. All of these horses had fallen on hard times and ended up at low end auctions, just a step away from entering the slaughter pipeline.

Adelle was in very bad shape as evidenced by her walking with a neurologically abnormal gait. The veterinary evaluation noted that she moved with the right hind leg in a shorter stride and used a shorter stance than the left. She is severely paretic and ataxic when “bumped” in the hip from either side. During a tail “pull” the vet could pull Adelle’s hind end almost parallel to the thoracic limbs at the walk without her “fighting” or resisting; greater on the right than the left, but very abnormal.

Adelle also has moderate bilateral mucopurulent nasal discharge indicating she was exposed to stress and illness (likely a very virulent respiratory infection strain, strangles or similar).

There were no apparent lesions on the body to suggest trauma, and Adelle did not have classical giraffe-stature leggy tall physique normally seen in wobbler syndrome horses (warmbloods, tall arabians). Therefore it’s unlikely she had this syndrome.

With the degree of CP deficits and weaknesses, Adelle is at a severe fall risk; and there is no treatment to improve upon or give a quality of life to her in this condition. It was decided that humane euthanasia was the kindest option due to this advanced neurological condition.
