Black
Beauty:rescued from a local auction in October 2001. This
older Tennessee Walking Horse was emaciated, lice infested, and needed
farrier care. Recovering over the winter months, Black Beauty became a
favorite at the rescue. He was adopted to a new home as a companion and
light trail riding horse in May 2002. Black Beauty was humanely euthanized due to severe colic in 2005. He is missed.
Eeyore: donated
from a summer youth camp, this older horse required updated shots,
worming, and hoof care. Arthritis supplements helped with stiffness in
his rear legs. Adopted in January 2001 as a beginner lesson horse for 6
and 7 year old kids, Eeyore is a special favorite in his new home. Unfortunately, Eeyore was humanely euthanized due to severe colic in the spring of 2003.
Emmy
Lou: rescued from a local auction in October 2001. Emmy was
extremely thin with several missing teeth. This old grey mare became
best friends with Black Beauty and her gentle, but sometimes feisty,
spirit returned. Emmy Lou was retired to an adoptive home in March 2002. See before and after pictures above. Sadly, Emmy Lou was humanely euthanized due to severe colic in 2003.
Jasper: donated by his owner, this lovely Thoroughbred gelding
was sold as a yearling for $77,000! Raced from the age of 2 to 7,
Jasper eventually was sold at an auction due to severe leg injuries.
His former owner paid for two surgeries to remove bone chips and
to this day, Jasper still has chips "growing" in his forelegs. However,
he is working sound and this big hearted gelding was adopted to
the perfect home in November 2001.
TeePee: former champion roping horse being retired by his
current owner. TeePee has some arthritis, but makes an excellent
trail horse for an intermediate rider. This handsome bay gelding
was adopted as a special birthday present in November 2001. Due
to an unexpected move, TeePee was returned to the rescue and has
been successfully re-adopted in January 2002.
