Big John: a 13 year old sorrel gelding, John is a registered
Quarterhorse donated by his former owners. Unable to sell him because of re-occurring lameness problems, FRER's rehabilitation
strategy for John included arthritis supplements, magnetic therapy, and natural balance trimming/shoeing. Big John is a trail horse
with the possibility of light jumping or dressage work in the future. Adopted in April 2001 then re-adopted in August 2001 when the first
home could not keep him.
Jamoca:
an older gelding found in a local auction pen underweight and crippled
by arthritis. FRER outbid a killer buyer to rescue
this gentle soul who spent his final year of life at the rescue. LegendTM shots, arthritis supplements, and light
therapy brought significant relief to Jamoca who occasionally trotted
and cantered when turned out. Jamoca was a special friend to Dancer who
inspired rescue founder, Hilary Wood, to start FRER. In October 2001, Jamoca went into a mild colic which progressed
in a short time period. He was humanely euthanized and is greatly
missed by the rescue and its volunteers.
Patrick: rescued with Zeus and turned over to FRER. Patrick is a 5 year old colt
suffering from severe malnourishment, overgrown hooves and is blind in
his left eye. Once healthy, Patrick was gelded in mid-April. After his
recuperation period, Patrick began re-training to assess his level of
training. A local trainer who uses "whisper techniques" re-started
Patrick in May. Patrick responded by being a pupil ready to advance!
Adopted in June 2000.
Zeus: was rescued by
private individuals and turned over to FRER. This Appaloosa pony
was extremely malnourished and in need of care for parasites, overgrown
hooves and weight gain. Once healthy, Zeus was ridden English by one of
our young volunteers. Adopted in June 2000 after his second debut at a
local schooling show (Zeus won two 1st place ribbons and a 6th place
ribbon). He now has numerous admirers in his new home and continues to
win ribbons at local horse shows.
