FRER Investigator's Report of a Roundup in Nevada

FRER's investigator sent us photos and reported the following, from witnessing a roundup in Nevada during September - witnessed at the holding pens:

"...here you will find the frightened, traumatized horses I had just witnessed being rounded up a few hours before. They had been transported many miles from the site to Litchfield. No vet was there to care for them.

Here are images of the gather, showing the corral, the trailer, the commotion of gathered horses, the white horse that broke her left front leg, and the cowboy that shot her with a high-powered rifle … the horses were kicking each other, breathing in alkali dust, some with blood coming from their nostrils...

Here is a close-up of the mare that had its left front leg broken, most likely by a kicking horse. I saw a lot of kicking. It was heart-rending to observe the valiant struggle of this horse to stand. As you see the bone broke clean through...also is the transfer of horses in which the elegant black stallion fights desperately for freedom. This was most touching; he reared and kicked and, in general, went wild; a brave stallion! The cowboy leapt out of the trailer and had to go on top to adjust the gates to separate the horses. This was a heartwrenching scene.
