Four-year-old Duke was saved in early 2016 because of several “failed” racetrack starting gate issues. He was being “thrown away” which meant into the slaughter pipeline.

Duke was given on going assessment for track related injuries including hind end trauma and weakness and significant arthritis to a hind fetlock. He’s a friendly horse with a few training issues that, over time, were resolved. Eventually, additional diagnostics showed a marked decline in his right hind fetlock from a significant past injury making it clear he should never be ridden. Duke was placed in a home needing a companion to a retired show horse.
