The following case histories represent a small sample of rescued horses that entered Front Range Equine Rescue's (FRER) program in 1997. FRER's quarterly newsletter, The Hoof Beat, highlights histories of all horses that come into the rescue during the last quarter. The newsletter is available online or you can request an email copy.
Kiva: is a sweet mare rescued from a kid's camp when she was unable to maintain a healthy weight. Kiva is approximately 24 years old and had 5 loose teeth with one infected. Once 3 of these teeth were removed, she was able to eat a lot better and steadily picked up weight. Kiva is available for adoption for trail riding. ADOPTED!!!
Cash: is a nice bay gelding about 23 years old rescued from a kid's camp when he was unable to maintain weight. His medical needs were updated, including dental care. Cash has steadily put on weight and is in the adoption process. He also required chiropractic care as his back and hips were very stiff. Photo shows Cash upon arrival at FRER. ADOPTED!!!
Ali: is a cute and friendly 3-yr old mustang gelding rescued from a kill lot along with a mustang mare. He is very green and in training for manners and ground work. He will make a nice horse for an experienced owner who wants to finish his training in whatever discipline they choose. ADOPTED!!!
April and Toby: April was a pregnant mare found at a kill lot and rescued just two weeks before giving birth to her colt, Toby. She has some lameness issues that are manageable and it is believed April may end up suitable for light trail riding in the future. Both mare and foal moved to their new home in June. ADOPTED!!!
Onyx: rescued from a local auction in late January. He is approximately 175 pounds underweight beneath his thick winter coat. Onyx is a sweet and curious gelding who is about 25 years old. It is hoped he will make a nice family horse once he regains his health. ADOPTED!!!
Mia: rescued from the killer's feedlot one day before shipping to slaughter. She is a pregnant paint mare, approximately 10 years old. Mia is very friendly and is initially being treated for lice and the need for proper nutrition. Her history is unknown. Mia had a healthy foal (Cara) and both have been successfully adopted to a loving home. ADOPTED!!!
Cherokee: rescued one day before shipping to slaughter. He is a paint/dun gelding approximately 6 years old. Cherokee is a friendly and curious horse with good manners. He is being treated for lice and other health needs. ADOPTED!!!
