March 2: The Colorado Springs Horseman's Day hosted by CO Equine Veterinary Services. Front Range Equine Rescue will have a vendor booth. Event is free to the public at the Norris Penrose Event Center, 1045 Lower Gold Camp Rd., Colorado Springs 80905. "The Care and Keeping of Horses" Children's Day camp, June 10-14, ages 8-12, Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, $125.00.
Students will learn a lifetime's worth of respect, responsibility and understanding of horses in this Black Forest camp. Prey and herd instincts, breeds, gaits, care, cost, horse literature and games used to teach children safety around horses. Campers will work with equine vet, farrier and dentist to explore horse related careers.
There is no riding at this camp.
"Hanging Around Horses" Children's Day Camp, July 22-24, Ages 10 and older, $125.00
Children must have taken "Care and Keeping" camp first. Campers will build on previous curriculum and advance to handling horses safely on the ground, compete in a grooming contest, participate in horse related drama, BBQ dinner, a barn dance/campfire treats. Horse issues such as abuse/neglect, horse slaughter, motivational ideas for kids to help horses will be taught.
There is no riding at this camp.
